Tectonic Climate and Extreme Events (TeCEE) Group

Core competence:

Our group investigates how climate and tectonic processes affect sediment transport, landscape changes, evolution and structure of earth on various short as well as longterm timescales.

Significant contributions:

Some of significant contributions of the various studies undertaken by the group are

• Crustal deformation studies in Gujarat and parts of Uttarakhand
• Archaeoseismological study of Vadnagar, North Gujarat
• Active fault study of various major seismogenic faults of Kachchh
• Reconstruction of catalogue for Holocene palaeotsunami events along Gujarat coastline
• Human response to landscape change during the Holocene period

Current pursuits:

Our group currently pursues to understand human response to past extreme events (viz., earthquakes, tsunamis, climate change, sea level change) in Gujarat and various parts of northeast India. Another important facet of our research is focused on exploration of mineral wealth of Gujarat (minor minerals, critical minerals) using suit of laboratory and field tools. The network of GNSS stations in Gujarat is run and maintained for crustal deformation studies. The integrated Geochemistry & Geochronology facility is pinnacle of elemental analysis, which offers services to academic, mineral and other associated department regionally and internationally.
