Dr. Pavankumar Gayatri ( Scientist - B )

Dr. G. Pavan Kumar received his M.Sc. degree in Physics from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and Ph.D. degree in Geophysics from University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad. Currently he is holds the position of scientist at the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), Gandhinagar pursuing research in the field of active and passive electromagnetic geophysical exploration methods. He has wide experience in Magnetotellurics (MT) data acquisition, processing and analysis in geologically complex and diverse terrains of the eastern Himalaya as well as Indian shield. He has provided geoelectric crustal architecture of the Sikkim Himalaya to understand the seismotectonics and geodynamics. He is actively involved in various projects of Solid Earth Geophysics and Seismic hazard assessment & microzonation groups of ISR. His present research includes geoelectric crustal studies and potential groundwater aquifer mapping of Gujarat using magnetotellurics and time-domain electromagnetics, DC resistivity techniques respectively.

  • ISR has started geophysical surveys for Geothermal Energy in Gujarat state. ISR has pioneered a technique of 3D MT imaging of crust. Geological faults and crustal structure have been mapped in Kachchh.
  • ISR is carrying out Multiparametric Geophysical and Geochemical studies in Kachchh for earthquake prediction research.
  • ISR has upgraded Gujarat State Seismic Network from 19 online seismic stations to 40.
